What Is Organizational Development Consulting?
OD consulting in plain English, and how it differs from training, executive coaching, and strategy work.
Organizational development consulting is the work of changing how an organization actually operates — the patterns, the relationships, the decision rights, and the culture — rather than just changing what it produces.
It overlaps with strategy, with leadership coaching, and with training, but its centre is different: it is concerned with the system's underlying behaviour, not the symptoms it produces.
Done well, OD consulting is patient, diagnostic, and grounded in evidence. Done poorly, it's a deck full of frameworks that don't survive contact with reality.
